Janet Prvu Bettger

Dr. Bettger is a Professor and the Vice Chair of Rehabilitation Research at the University of North Carolina in the Southeastern region of the United States of America. She lives and works in an area referred to as the “stroke belt” due to high incidence of stroke. Her research is dedicated to establishing stakeholder informed real-world evidence aimed to improve health care quality and policies that reduce the burden of disease and disability. She collaborates broadly across disciplines, with and across countries, and on studies across the lifespan and continuum of health and illness. As a health services researcher and implementation scientist, she has led and collaborated on research that extends from observational and registry-based studies to randomized, pragmatic and implementation effectiveness trials such as COMPASS, VERITAS, RECOVER and SINEMA. She has had federal funding continuously for more than 20 years, has more than 200 peer-reviewed publications and is a Fellow of the American Heart Association. Dr. Bettger is recognized internationally for her research on integrating services and supports into models of care, and for building capacity for research including a pipeline of trainees committed to advocating for health and equity in all policies.
