Smart Strokes Best Research Award

This award will be presented to the highest graded abstract which makes a significant contribution to stroke research and/or practice.

$1000 AUD cash prize; no application required.

Smart Strokes New Presenter Award

This award will be presented to the highest graded abstract whose first author (nominated presenter) has never presented at a national conference.

$300 AUD cash prize; applications via the abstract submission portal.

Smart Strokes Best Poster presentation

This award will be presented to the best poster at the conference.

$200 AUD cash prize; no application required.

ASNEN Acute Stroke Nurse Education Network Outstanding Nursing Abstract Award

This award will be presented to the 2 highest graded nursing abstracts.

Cash prizes 2 x $500; applications via the abstract submission portal

Centre of Research Excellence to Accelerate Innovation and Translation in Stroke Trials: Research excellence in Co-design award.

This award will be presented to the highest graded abstract which demonstrates collaboration and involvement of people with lived experience of stroke (survivors or carers) during the project.

$400 AUD cash prize; applications via the abstract submission portal

Australian Aphasia Association - Best stroke care or research for or with people with aphasia

This award will continue to recognise the most outstanding presentations by a team or individual who has demonstrated real-life improvements in care for people living with aphasia and greater adherence to national stroke guidelines (i.e. knowledge translation/implementation science).

$300 AUD cash prize; applications via the abstract submission portal

Stroke Foundation Quality Improvement Award

Awarded to highest graded abstract describing a local quality improvement project, conducted by nursing and/or allied health professionals.

The Stroke Foundation Quality Improvement Prize is an annual recognition of achievement and excellence and is awarded for a local quality improvement project. This award is funded by Stroke Foundation and the prize recipient will be presented with a certificate at Smart Strokes, by Stroke Foundation CEO, Dr Lisa Murphy.

To be eligible prize, your abstract must demonstrate that your project:

  • Collected data before and after implementation

  • Has a clear aim (related to improvement in clinical practice) and clear quality improvement methodology with clear rationale 

  • Led to improvements in care being delivered at your site, and/or

  • Improved practice at your site according to guidelines or frameworks, and/or

  • Improved your patient outcomes.

  • Was conducted by nurse/s and/or allied health professional/s

Prize

  • Early Bird registration for Smart Strokes 2024 (valued at $725)

  • Presentation coaching available with Stroke Foundation’s QI Team

Applicants are invited to apply for all awards for which they meet eligibility criteria.

Applicants will be awarded a maximum of one award each.
